Middlesex County STEM Charter School will implement Pearson’s myWorld Social Studies Curriculum, which aligns to New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Social Studies as well as supports the Common Core Standards for literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subjects. The social studies curriculum will rely heavily on the infusion of the ELA common core standards. Starting in kindergarten, students will engage in thematic units designed to prepare them for their role in the community. Various projects and real life application assignments will accompany these units as student begin to understand their role in society and the diversity of others. Once students reach second grade they will begin introductory lessons in civics, government and geography. This will lead up to the inclusion of social studies as a core course starting in the third grade. Teachers will be dual certified in elementary and social studies to provide subject based courses starting in the third grade.
